Academics — Basic Academic Policies
Student Grade
Upon registration, the students are automatically given their own SIS account (sis.tagoloan.edu.ph) to monitor their respective grades and enrolled subjects.
General Retention Policy for Non-Board Courses
The minimum grade requirement for all major subjects in all program is 2.5.
If a student accumulates a total of five (5) failing grades or a total of 15 units within the semester, he/she well be under probation. A student who fails in three (3) technical or skilled courses or equivalent to twelve (12) units shall be under probation.
If a student accumulates a total of five (5) failing core subjects within the Academic Year shall be placed under probation (18-unit subject load) on the following semester.
Students who failed in five (5) major subjects in one (1) Academic Year (AY) shall be advised to shift to another course, subject for the approval of the receiving college dean.
Students on probation should fill-out a form from the Office of the Vice-President of the Academic Affairs.
Retention Policy for Board Courses
(Criminology, Education, Midwifery, BLIS)
College of Criminology
1. All criminology students should get a minimum grade of 2.5 in all of his/her major and English subjects. For all other core subjects, please refer to the general retention policy.
2. A student who fails to reach the cut-off grade twice can re-take the subject however, failure to reach the cut-off grade of 2.5 for the third time is advised to shift to another course.
College of Education
1. All Education students should have a minimum grade of 2.5 in all of his/her subjects. A student who fails to reach the cut-off grade should re-take the subject once or advise to shift to other course.
2. An Education student who obtains a 2.5 grade in three (3) of his/her subjects in any semester shall be advised to shift to another program.
3. An education student may be placed under probation with the maximum 18 units subject-load upon recommendation of the Program Head and the approval of the College Dean, in case the student is able to obtain higher grades than the minimum retention policy requirements the later will automatically become a regular student.
College of Midwifery
1. As midwifery students should get a minimum grade of 2.5 in all of his/her professional and core subjects. A student who fails to reach the cut-off grade should either re-enroll the subject.
2. A midwifery student who obtain 1 2.5 grade in three of his/her professional and core courses in any semester shall be advised to shift to another program.
3. The students under 2-year program have to enroll in the competency assessment I and II after having completed all the completed all the requirements in the major courses, theory and clinical practice to be enrolled in the 1st and 2nd semester for the 2nd year level.
4. The students in the 2-year program should comply with all the requirements required by the bard of midwifery and Professional Regulation Commission and to be submitted first to the dean’s office 1 week before the date of graduation for final evaluation of the template.
College of Library and Information Science
1. Library Information science students should get a minimum grade of 2.5 in all of his/her subjects. A student who fails to reach the cut-off grade of 2.5 should re-take the subject once.
2. A Library Information students who obtains an accumulated 2.5 grade in four (4) of his/her subjects in any semester shall be shall be subject for a probation of 18-unit subject load in the following semester.
3. If a students failed in three (3) major and IT subjects shall be advised to shift.
Study Load
Regular Student. Are students enrolled full load equivalent to 26-29 units corresponding to the number of units in the curriculum of the program enrolled.
Probation. Students who are under probation are limited to a carrying a minimum of fifteen (15) units and a maximum of eighteen (18) units only.
Working Students. working students are only allowed to carry eighteen (18) units per semester.
Summer Classes. Summer classes with a maximum subject load of nine units are only allowed to courses with summer class schedules in their curriculum.
Graduating Students. Graduating students in their last semester may be allowed upon request to carry an excess of three (3) to six (6) units of study load, subject to the approval of the College Dean, VPAA, and the College President.
Students are not allowed to enroll in their practicum/internship not unless all the major subjects are taken.
Tardiness and Absences
a. For face-to-face modality, absences are permitted but should not exceed to the following;
1. Seven (7) consecutive absences for a 3-unit course meeting 2 times a week is considered dropped, however, such absences have a valid reason and may be reconsidered at the discretion of the Department Head.
2. Three (3) consecutive absences for a course which meets once a week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) is considered dropped
3. For courses with more than 3 units, an allowable number of absences is obtained by multiplying the number of unit hours by three and adding one.
a. There are no excused absences. Any considerations will be subject to the approval of the teacher.
b. If the student incurred 15 minutes late in class is considered absent.
c. During summer classes, which classes are everyday Monday-Friday, absences will not exceed to 5.
